“we travel, some of us forever, to seek other states, other lives, other souls.”

- Anais Nin

Parker Projects is excited to showcase the poignant images of photographer Yasmeen Strang in her inaugural pop-up exhibition, wanderings. This body of work reflects her experiences in East Africa, Jamaica, and Vancouver, and explores what it is to wander, how connections are made when exploring, and the revealing nature of those encounters.

Her photographs reflect her love of people, different cultures, and the enduring human spirit. Yasmeen utilizes natural light and rich textures to depict the people and places – and sometimes animals - she encounters on her life’s journey.

Strang lives and works in Vancouver, graduated with a Fine Arts degree from the University of Victoria, and worked with photographer James O’Mara for six years. Strang left the world of photography to explore other avenues until 2015 when she travelled to Colombia with her father to mourn the death of her mother, and there, on the streets of Bogota, she rediscovered her love and passion for photography. She hasn’t put down her camera since.

"These images are a reflection of my interest in our collective search for connection. I have wandered both near and far seeking to capture that certain gesture – a direct gaze, a vulnerable moment, or a considered touch. Whether photographing the favoured or the forgotten; human or animal, I hope to convey these moments of connection, or at the very least, our eternal longing for it." - Yasmeen Strang
